More trains for Brisbane

Commuters travelling by the train in and around Brisbane have been promised 150,000 more seats and the introduction of a simpler timetable.

In what she claimed was one of the biggest public transport enhancements in south-east Queensland, Minister for Transport Anna Palaszcuk told Parliament today trains would now run through the Brisbane CBD every three minutes during peak hours.

The changes, to take effect in June, affect the Caboolture, Ipswich, Rosewood and north coast lines.

Ms Palaszcuk said the introduction of a “turn-up-and-go” train network would also give commuters a more reliable transport system in off-peak hours, public holidays and weekends.

“Between now and June, TransLink will be working with all bus operators to change their timetables to continue to ensure we have a fully integrated bus and train network,” she said.
